Mo'Minis Studio
What are the basic requirements for the Studio to run?
The Studio requires Windows XP SP2 with .NET Framework 2.0 installed. We also recommend on having at least 1GB of RAM.
I know nothing about game development. Is Mo'Minis Studio easy to learn?
Yes. Mo'Minis Studio provides the lowest entrance barrier when it comes to mobile games development. It allows you to focus on game design, and the core logic of the game, leaving the difficult parts to Mo'Minis runtime engine.
I am a graphic designer. Is Mo'Minis relevant to me as well?
Of course it is! We encourage graphic designers to join the community.
Graphics are a critical element of the game creation process. As a matter of fact, many skilled logic developers often look to team with up with a talented graphic designer to create a complete game.
Furthermore, we have a dedicated forum board for partnering you up with other graphic designers, creative and logic developers. Go ahead and post a new forum message introducing yourself along with some graphic samples, as it will increase your chances of finding a good match.
What kind of games can I create using the Studio?
The Studio is targeted at creating casual 2D games (or 2.5D) - the most popular genre today in the mobile gaming industry. For new users we recommend to start with a small simple game, and then as they get more acquaintance with the studio, create more and more sophisticated games. This is a good place to stress that the Studio is not mere a customization platform. You can create almost any type of game using the Studio. Creators are limited only by their creativity.
Where can I find easy tutorials and samples?
We provide a comprehensive set of video tutorials on our tutorials section. You are also welcome to download our sample games package from the dedicated section.
Do I need to know programming in order to create games with Mo'Minis Studio?
No. Mo'Minis Studio's logic is defined using a drag and drop interface. Using this interface you can embed logic in the game without writing a single line of code. Nonetheless, although the interface is user-friendly, some of its features are as strong as ones offered by modern development environment.
Can I create multi-player games with Mo'Minis studio?
Currently No. However, we do plan to add support for more multiplayer games in the future.
How can I add menus for the games I create?
Menus are automatically added to the generated game. Notice that when opening a new game document two Rooms are automatically added to the game. The first one is marked as the menu room. You can change its background and even add items inside it. The actual menu list will be displayed on top of your design after the game is generated.
Can I add "real code" myself to my game?
No. Since Mo'Minis Studio is designed to be completely platform-independent, including platform dependent code in the game will break the concept.
Are you going to add a scripting language in the future?
We are currently assessing many advanced features which will help our creators create better game, and scripting language is one of them. Whether scripting language is the next feature that will be added or not is much dependent on you - your feedback is important to us, and it should be important to you if you wish to get better service.
Is Mo'Minis studio available on operating systems other than windows?
Currently no. Although the studio is written on top of the .NET framework, it contains some native components. This subject may change in the future.
Games Compatibility
Can I convert my existing PC (/ Web) games to mobile?
You can definitely port your existing games to mobile using Mo'Minis Studio. The process is not automatic but since the studio allows rapid creation of mobile games, the development cycle is substantially shortened. Furthermore, when porting your desktop / Flash / Game Maker (/ any other type) game to mobile, you will benefit from having your pre-made gameplay design and graphics, which can be easily imported to the studio.
Nonetheless, the mobile games world has its own rules and market trends. If there is a specific game you wish to port and need help with, post a message in the "Game ideas" forum board or contact us and we will do our best to assist.
Will I have to make adjustment to the game and in order to make it run on different handsets?
Absolutely not! The platform was designed to take care of all the difficult (and boring) porting issues for you. Your only concern is creating a great game. We take care of the rest.
My game works well on the simulator, but games tend to break when running on various mobile handsets. How can I test the game on real handsets?
Since Mo'Minis platform takes care of the handsets' compatibilities issues for you, you don't really have to test your game on different handsets. The built-in simulator is all you need for testing your game.
How exactly do you solve the device fragmentation (porting) issue?
This is information we prefer to keep to ourselves. But we have to admit it's pretty cool (in a geeky kind of way).
Which mobile handsets are supported by Mo'Minis platform?
Currently Mo'Minis platform supports large amount of mobile handsets that have a J2ME runtime engine deployed. These include handsets manufactured by the leading handset vendors (including Nokia, SonyEricsson, Motorola, Samsung, etc). The platform is currently in its beta stage and handset coverage as well as porting quality are rapidly improving.
The complete list of handsets shall become available in the future.
How does Mo'Minis choose which mobile handsets to support?
We aim to balance between reaching a high coverage (by keeping track of world-wide handset statistics) and responding to demands by our distributions partners. After all, the goal is to maximize the game creators' profits.
What about supporting other platforms such as the iPhone or Android?
Mo'Minis strongly believes in the strategic importance of Android and supports all Android devices. Our Studio and compiler enable our games to fully utilize the innovative features of Android, including touch support.
Although we are big fans of the iPhone, we believe that the iPhone's market is saturated, and that monetizing games on the App Store is becoming an increasingly difficult task for developers, leaving a significant amount of talented developers out of the game. Accordingly, we do not focus on the iPhone.
Are the games created by Mo'Minis Studio available on Windows as well?
Yes. The Studio comes with a built-in simulator for testing the games. In the future, we will release a version of the simulator which will execute games from within the browser, allowing gamers to play the games online.
Can Mo'Minis Studio create games for consoles such as PS3 or XBox?
No. Mo'Minis Studio only generates games for mobile handsets.
Speed and Performance issues
The game runs quickly in the simulator. Mobile Handsets are much slower, how can I make sure that the game will run smoothly on the handsets as well?
Writing a runtime engine for a mobile game requires high development skills. Luckily for you, we have already written such an engine, utilizing the best practices for mobile games development. Our engine takes care of performance issues in a way that is transparent to the game creator. As long as you keep our guidelines (see the question below), your game should run well on all supported phones.
How can I improve the performance of my games? any guidelines?
Although detecting the factors that make you game run slowly is not an easy task, we can provide you with two basic rules of thumb. The first one is keeping the number of Instances simultaneously active in a room relatively low (10's of Instances is the maximum you should allow). The second is not using very large images. Large Images cause high memory consumption and tend to lower performance.
Publishing / Compiling the game
I searched for a way to get the game to my phone, but didn't find anything. What should I do?
The platform is currently in Beta stage and we do not yet supply a way for to get the mobile version of your game. Nonetheless, when you are done creating your game, we encourage you to publish it (explained in the following question). We will do our best to send you the game for free shortly after. Please keep in mind that while our support base is already very wide, we still don't have 100% handsets coverage (more details in the "Games Compatibility" topic) and you might experience some issues with the game running on your personal handset.
In addition, leading games will be distributed worldwide and potentially generate revenue for you as described in the "Game Distribution & Revenues" topic.
My game is done! How do I publish it?
Publishing your game is done using the Studio's publish option (Publish button under the Community tab). Publishing a game will cause it to appear in the website's play section allowing you to receive community feedback.
Game Distribution & Revenues
Where will my game be distributed?
Mo'Minis will strive to distribute and commercialize your game, whether through partnerships with On-deck channels (i.e. mobile operators) or through partnerships with various Off-deck channels (e.g. Internet portals) around the world, either by the sale of games or through advertisement associated to the games.
What do I get from the distribution?
First of all, it's great to know that your game is currently being distributed through a large operator or a prominent website accessible to millions of players. Nonetheless, beyond the share fun of creating a cool game, acknowledging the efforts you invested in your game, we think that you deserve to get paid if it also generates revenues; therefore, in addition to any specific contest prizes, you may be entitled to receive payment if the game generates revenues.
What is the payment mechanism?
Mo'Minis is working hard both on improving the platform - adding new features, fixing bugs and increasing handset coverage, and partnering with leading distribution channels world-wide for an optimal games commercialization.
Nonetheless, acknowledging the efforts you invested in your game, we think that you deserve to get paid if your game generates revenues; therefore, in addition to any specific contest prizes or grants which Mo'Minis may grant some of its developers from time to time, you will get a share of the game's net revenues starting from 40%. The percentage may also grow according to Mo'Minis considerations such as (but not limited to) the volume of sales generated by a game, and the number and\or quality of games developed by the developer.
You should be aware that after a game is published by you, Mo'Minis will do its best to try and generate revenues for your game.
From this point, all you have to do is wait for a check that we will send you should your game will generate revenues. Or, even better, start developing a new cool game. Your game may be automatically ported to the wide variety of handsets, and we will take care of its commercialization efforts. Every time we close a deal with a new distribution partner, your game will potentially be exposed to millions of new players.
How do I get paid?

Following the submission of your game Mo'Minis will be entitled to use it in an attempt to commercialize it and generate revenues; however, we will not be able to process payment, should you be entitled to receive it, before you provide us with the required information.
Payments will be made on a quarterly basis. Please note that for convenience reasons payment will only be processed when the aggregated payment due exceeds US$75.
You should take into consideration that payments may be subject to withholding taxes, and therefore the Company may hold such taxes as required by law.

How can I distribute my game to additional distribution channels I know of?
Mo'Minis is investing a lot of efforts in maximizing games commercialization by partnering with leading distribution channels. Nonetheless, if you wish to further distribute the game to additional channels, contact us and we will be happy to explore this opportunity.
Community & Contest
What is the purpose of the contests?
The purpose of the contests is boosting our service by giving a clear incentive to our creators community. Although we believe that much stronger incentives will come from our distribution and monetization services down the road, a contest with a cut and clear prize helps to initiate the process.
Where can I get more information regarding the active contest?
You are welcome to enter the contests section.
Bugs and known issues
I am unable to update the studio, although I'm sure that I am connected to the internet. What should I do?
First of all, when you try to update the client make sure you have a live internet connection =). If it still fails, you should check if you have a firewall installed on your computer. Some firewalls may fail update (sometimes without even notifying the user).
Sometimes when I run the simulator, the game moves slowly and freezes from time to time. What should I do?
The simulator may encounter difficulties when your system's resources level is low. This is usually caused when many applications are running on your computer on the same time. If you experience serious performance issues try to close some of the running applications.
How do I report a bug?
Bug reporting is done through our support form here.
